Lotos LTP8000 IGBT 80 Amps Pilot Arc Plasma Cutter Review
The LTP8000 takes a bit to get used to, but once you get a handle on it, you're good to go. And the best part is, at 80 amps it's priced for half of what you'd pay on another brand.

In the past I have used a considerable amount of plasma cutters and even though I haven’t used them recently, it was time to purchase a new one. For the amount of work I have now, I don’t really care too much about the name of the machine or who makes it as long as it works. The Lotos LTP8000 worked pretty well for such a small machine.

Minor Problems during Shipping

Firstly to start with a complaint; the cutter arrived within a few weeks of me ordering which I wasn’t overly happy with. I would have preferred quicker delivery but I didn’t opt for express delivery services at checkout; nonetheless, when the plasma cutter arrived it looked fairly well packaged at first but there was one minor issue. One of the nozzles was broken. Now, I was quite annoyed at this because I wanted to use it immediately. Anyway, when I called tech support the people there sorted out the problem and sent me a replacement in very quick time.

I am not too sure how the nozzle broke, whether it was done at the warehouse or it was dropped in transit. It doesn’t really matter now as everything works perfectly but was still somewhat frustrated as I couldn’t use it right away.

Faults and Errors

  • Broken Nozzle
  • Didn’t Cut In Straight Line on First Use
  • Air Compressor Required For Thicker Metals

Despite my moaning there weren’t actually too many negative points about this Lotos but still the few that were there were frustrating and annoying. Some of these faults may have been down to me I must admit. Maybe I wasn’t careful enough whilst unpacking (I doubt it but maybe) and I have to say when you first use it you aren’t able to cut in a straight line. It does take some getting used to as I found out so I’ve had to practice quite a bit to get back into the swing of things.

Good Points

  • A 1 Year Warranty
  • Some Nifty Features
  • Greatly Designed
  • Cuts Easily

Once you actually get used to the flow of the unit, the plasma cutter works really well. It cuts right through thinner metals and isn’t too heavy either. I can easily move this when I want to move from the workshop to garage. Again, I don’t really mind who makes it as long as it works and it certainly does work. There weren’t any issues once I got used to the cutter and was happy there is a warranty as well.

Strong Performance

Unfortunately I haven’t used this as much as I would have hoped for as other commitments have gotten in the way. However, for the few hours I have used this, it does have an impressive performance rate. I don’t use an air compressor since I’m not working with thicker metals but even without it, it offers good quality. Very impressive to say the least.

Get What You Pay For

The old saying goes you get what you pay for and that is what I got here. I might have been a little worried when I first received the plasma cutter but it hasn’t let me down yet. When I get around to using it, it is sharp and gets through the work in no time. Also, the cost wasn’t too high which was very pleasing.
